DJ Madness (Josi Molnar) ist einer der Pioniere der Schweizer Clubkultur. Seit 1986 hinter den Decks, 1990 mit DELIRIUM Veranstalter der ersten offiziellen Technoparty der Schweiz, 1995 «DJ of the Year». Gründer von SUB ZERO Records, dem ersten Techno-Label der Schweiz, und Mitbegründer von Central Records in Zürich. Erster Schweizer DJ an der Budapest Parade und im Café del Mar Ibiza, Gigs im Londoner Turnmills. Heute spielt er House, Deep House, Afro House und Techno – und ist Resident bei DJ Radio Dubai. Josi Molnar hat die elektronische Tanzmusik in der Schweiz wie kaum ein anderer mitgeprägt. Mit seinem unverkennbaren Gespür für Rhythmus und Melodie schafft er es immer wieder, das Publikum auf eine musikalische Reise mitzunehmen, die von den Anfängen des Techno bis zu den modernsten House-Variationen reicht.

DJ Madness (Josi Molnar) is one of the pioneers of Swiss club culture. Behind the decks since 1986, he threw Switzerland’s first official techno party with DELIRIUM in 1990 and was voted “DJ of the Year” in 1995. Founder of SUB ZERO Records, Switzerland’s first techno label, and co-founder of Zurich’s Central Records. First Swiss DJ to play the Budapest Parade and Café del Mar Ibiza, with gigs at London’s Turnmills. Today: House, Deep House, Afro House and Techno – and resident at DJ Radio Dubai. Josi Molnar has shaped electronic dance music in Switzerland like few others. With his unmistakable sense of rhythm and melody, he consistently takes the audience on a musical journey, spanning from the early days of techno to the most modern house variations.

1986. Clubkultur? In der Schweiz praktisch nicht existent. Genau dann entscheidet sich Josi Molnar für einen Weg, den es hier eigentlich noch gar nicht gibt: Profi-DJ. Aus Josi wird DJ Madness – und aus einem Namen eine Institution.
DELIRIUM – Der erste Beat
Ende der 80er gründet er mit seinem Bruder Erik und zwei Weggefährten das Partylabel DELIRIUM. 1990 steigt in der Alten Kaserne Zürich die erste offizielle Technoparty der Schweiz – der Startschuss für eine ganze Bewegung. DELIRIUM ist bis heute ein Name, bei dem die alte Garde wissend nickt und die junge neugierig wird.
Zürich by Night
Madness stand nie nur hinter den Decks. Er gründet das Szenemagazin Raveline mit, gehört zu den prägenden Köpfen der ersten Zürcher Street Parade 1992 und treibt Clubs wie Hells Kitchen und New Gothic an. Wer in den 90ern in Zürich getanzt hat, hat irgendwann zu seinem Sound getanzt.
DJ of the Year
1995 wird er aus 80 nominierten Schweizer DJs zum «DJ of the Year» gewählt. Technik, Gespür für die Crowd, null Kompromisse bei der Qualität. Der Titel? Schön. Aber darum ging es ihm nie:
«Ich mache Musik für Menschen. Ihr Feedback, ihr Tanzen, ihre Freude – das ist die einzige Anerkennung, die für mich zählt. Ohne sie gäbe es Josi Molnar – aber keinen DJ Madness.»
Labels. Vinyl. Studio.
Aus dem DJ wird der Macher: Mit SUB ZERO Records gründet er das erste Techno-Label der Schweiz, es folgen Electron Records (1996) und Electro Industries (1997). 1998 zieht DELIRIUM ins legendäre Supermarket und prägt dort bis 2005 die Zürcher Wochenenden. 2001 erscheint seine Mix-Compilation «House Matic Zürich».
2004 eröffnet er mit seinem Bruder Central Records, direkt beim Zürcher HB. Mehr als ein Plattenladen: Vinyl, Equipment, Gadgets und ein Studio, in dem DJs ihre eigenen Tracks direkt vor Ort produzieren. Wohnzimmer und Pflichtadresse für eine ganze DJ-Generation.
Ohne Grenzen
2004 spielt Madness als erster Schweizer DJ an der Budapest Parade – in Ungarn geniesst er bis heute Kultstatus. Er ist auch der erste Schweizer DJ hinter den Decks des legendären Café del Mar auf Ibiza. Dazu Gigs in Londons Clubinstitutionen Turnmills und The Egg Club.
Heute
Der Sound heute: House, Deep House, Afro House und Techno – groovy, treibend, mit Tiefgang und dem Timing aus vier Jahrzehnten Floor-Erfahrung. Als Resident DJ bei DJ Radio Dubai kuratiert er die Musik, seine Releases laufen auf Spotify, Apple Music, Beatport und Tidal.
Die Zürcher Technokultur steht heute offiziell auf der Liste der lebendigen Traditionen der Schweiz. DJ Madness war vom ersten Beat an dabei.
Er folgt keinen Trends. Er setzt sie. Seit 1986.

1986. Club culture in Switzerland? Practically non-existent. That’s exactly when Josi Molnar chose a path that didn’t really exist here yet: professional DJ. Josi became DJ Madness – and a name became an institution.
DELIRIUM – The First Beat
In the late ’80s he founded the party label DELIRIUM with his brother Erik and two partners in crime. In 1990, the Alte Kaserne in Zurich hosted Switzerland’s first official techno party – the starting gun for an entire movement. To this day, DELIRIUM is a name that makes the old guard nod and the new generation curious.
Zurich After Dark
Madness was never just behind the decks. He co-founded the scene magazine Raveline, was one of the driving forces behind Zurich’s first Street Parade in 1992 and powered clubs like Hells Kitchen and New Gothic. If you danced in Zurich in the ’90s, sooner or later you danced to his sound.
DJ of the Year
In 1995 he was voted “DJ of the Year” from 80 nominated Swiss DJs. Skills, a sixth sense for the crowd, zero compromise on quality. The title? Nice. But that was never the point:
“I make music for people. Their feedback, their dancing, their joy – that’s the only recognition that matters to me. Without them, there would be Josi Molnar – but no DJ Madness.”

The DJ became a builder: with SUB ZERO Records he launched Switzerland’s first techno label, followed by Electron Records (1996) and Electro Industries (1997). In 1998, DELIRIUM moved into Zurich’s iconic Supermarket club and shaped the city’s weekends until 2005. In 2001, his mix compilation “House Matic Zürich” dropped.
In 2004, he and his brother opened Central Records right next to Zurich main station. More than a record store: vinyl, gear, gadgets and an in-house studio where DJs could produce their own tracks on the spot. Living room and must-visit address for a whole generation of DJs.
No Borders
In 2004, Madness became the first Swiss DJ to play the Budapest Parade – and he still enjoys cult status in Hungary today. He was also the first Swiss DJ behind the decks at the legendary Café del Mar in Ibiza, plus gigs at London institutions Turnmills and The Egg Club.
Today
The sound today: House, Deep House, Afro House and Techno – groovy, driving, deep, with the timing that only four decades on the floor can give you. As resident DJ at DJ Radio Dubai he curates the music, and his releases are out on Spotify, Apple Music, Beatport and Tidal.
Zurich’s techno culture is now officially listed as a living tradition of Switzerland. DJ Madness was there from the very first beat.
He doesn’t follow trends. He sets them. Since 1986.
